This weeks travel theme by “Where’s my backpack?” is Sensory.
Coming back from Vietnam, Fuyang greeted us with a warm “almost summer” week. This soon changed back into the cold winter we tried to escape during the holiday. But, before it turned grey, we managed to do a long hike along the mountains in the area.
We started the hike on our “normal” path, going up the hill at the back of our apartment building, that leads to the monument. We went past the monument up to the tea gardens. From here we followed the ridge and then all the way back down on the other side.
This path led us to a beautiful temple. Although not far away from the city, the rare silence was great pleasure to my ears. I found a seat close to the main temple and sat down. I was in bliss with the sun warming my skin, a gentle breeze hitting my face, birds singing along with the faint sound of chants coming from within the temple, and the smell of blooming flowers.
It was a moment of peace, and a gift to all my senses. One that can be easily missed in the busy cities of China.
